Studio Yamini is a design oriented state-of-the-art architecture firm incepted in 2004 by its founders and Principal Architects Mehul Shah and Mitul Shah. Ever since its inception, it has grown to serve an increasingly diverse and extensive clientele in commercial, residential & retail spaces, corporate offices, educational & health care segments, boutiques/fashion stores, hotels and hospitality.
The firm’s approach to architecture and interior design is driven by process, rather than principle. It is holistic in nature and includes rigorous consultation with stakeholders and sound functional and spatial planning.
Studio Yamini believes that each new situation requires a new architecture and insists on making ‘function’ the foundation of all their designs. Sensitivity towards material, people, place and time guides their quest in creating timeless designs.
The Studio’s innovative concepts enables it to create an optimal standard of living with and inside the structure and serve the needs of all stakeholders.
The Studio Yamini team is composed of creative, innovative and communicative individuals who share a fascination for their work and a readiness to become emotionally involved with each project as it develops.

The Table at Splatter, Vadodara, represents the repurposing of an erstwhile old bungalow into a multifunctional, multifaceted hospitality cum retail space. The process of adaptive reuse, however, was careful to follow the approach of minimal intervention in order to stay as sustainable as possible.

The entryway is marked by a wooden lattice, while the outdoor areas are partly sheltered by bamboo frames to provide dappled lighting. MS sections finished with turquoise enamel and topped with polycarbonate sheets serve as roofing. Materials and forms carefully balance economics, pragmatism and aesthetics.
The new narrative sought to repurpose the built-form without erasing its identity, it also aimed at giving the rejuvenated building its own unique character. To house a café, a store and gallery spaces for exhibitions and workshops, the ground floor was recalibrated by renovating existing spaces and adding new ones in the exterior.

Homely, familiar interior finishes Kota flooring, teakwood and wicker chairs, green-marbled topped tables and yellow printed fabric as upholstery-inject warmth and extend a welcoming air. The special feature of the project is the lighting design of the cafe spaces. Inspired by the weaver bird’s nest, the bespoke fixture uses composite fibers for its shade and tiny lacquered birds to complete the picture. This lighting element adds a very natural feel, especially in the outdoor café space.
The garden spaces were also utilized for an outdoor café experience. The programme also included room for conducting workshops. The purpose of an in-house store was to make available to the visiting users the various products that would be showcased during exhibitions or workshops. The Table at Splatter breathes new life into a building that was no longer being used for its intended purpose, thereby giving it a new meaning and purpose and a different dimension.
